Great partners turn their desire and passion into a career in photography, juggling between coursework and work. SAE students Nik and Danial talk about their business venture.
SAE Institute Malaysia is a branch of the global network of professional audio colleges set up in Australia in 1976. It has since expanded to become the largest network of audio, creative media and digital film institutions in the world, being represented in 16 countries. SAE’s mission in Malaysia is to ignite the fusion of creativity, artistry and technology to achieve the highest standards of performance in the field of new media technology.
Nik Razlan and Mohd Danial are two visionary youth currently undergoing their Media Technology Diploma studies in SAE Institute Malaysia. Being entrepreneurial lads, they have set up their own company named Cubic Foto (www.cubicfoto.com). Their customer base has since expanded, with more and more coming to know of their services.
“We started having a desire and passion for photography, and did it as a hobby long before we begin studying at SAE Malaysia. In January 2007, we had decided to start a company, and from June the same year, our career has officially taken off in the form of a company, Cubic Foto, while we were in our 3rd semester.
“We faced a lot of obstacles during the process of setting up this company. For example, we have had conflicts of ideas… we have had difference of opinion and some small arguments, but all that had allowed us to develop a mutual understanding. We also faced problems in fee negotiation with clients and dealers, but all these obstacles added to our experience as we march on and learn from our mistakes and challenges.
“Our company is doing very well currently; and each week, we receive a consistent flow of clients seeking our services.
The two also share a same interest – audio. “In the mean time we also have an interest in audio, and did some research over the internet about audio education. That’s when we found SAE Institute Malaysia. So we decided to give it a try, and to our surprise we really have great time learning at SAE Institute Malaysia. It is really fun, as the college provides very interesting modules on Audio, Media and Digital Filming.
“We are exposed to many important knowledge and skills in this course, both technically and theatrically. The college is also equipped with relevant equipment which has been specifically set up for the courses. Of all, we really enjoy working with the Digital Filming equipment available here,” explains Danial.
Nik was fast in adding, “Studying in SAE Institute Malaysia, our lecturers kept offering us advices and encouragement for our tasks and challenges. And their words of wisdom mean a lot to us because they intensify our interest and passion toward our chosen field, and contribute greatly to our skill that we can use on our business dealings”.
Recalling his early days in the program, Nik says he “will never forget the day where I had to set up the entire drum set independently while my friends were having a break some where else. Although still green, I had to use my efforts and knowledge to solve this puzzle, and get things going for the first time.”
Daniel has had his share of fond memories. “I will always remember the proceeding of this program. There are times where I have to perform a recording or video production overnight, and it was so much fun. And all those experience is really priceless.
“Presently, we are strategizing ways to stabilize our company and we plan to build our own studio in the near future” he continues.
And their parting advice? “We really encourage everyone to try out this new experience: Take the challenge; you will never know how far you can reach unless you take that path.”
