Creative Media
Computer Graphics, Illustration and Design Application
Designed to introduce computer hardware and software and the processes of applying the fundamental principles of using computers for digital image creation and editing. Special relevance is given to understanding different operating systems, peripheral and devices used, developing cross platform creative media content where creative media production is explored.
Students learn the artistic understanding of the relevance or logical rationale of fonts and typography, illustrations, & photographs in a given layout, and technical understanding of how the various publishing processes work-- from print to web. Every publishing medium has its unique strengths and challenges. Students will learn industry-standard graphics and desktop publishing software, with a strong emphasis on individualistic thoughts on the application of their respective creative endeavours. A comprehensive introduction to colour theory and interface design is also explored. On completion of this section, students will have a strong foundation in graphic design for print, screen and new emerging media.
3D Animation and Video Application
3D animation is designed to introduce the student to 3D graphics and animation by learning how to prepare images and create wire frame models for use in 3D animations for the interactive environment and television/ film. The students are encouraged to explore the possibilities of the applications used and create their own 3D graphics.
Students are also exposed to the various video editing and manipulation applications used for capturing video and recording audio and preparing it for use in creative media productions. The students will learn to apply the technology and creative input to achieve certain desired results and effects in creative media content development.
Authoring and Project Management
This subject introduces students to the concept of designing an interactive media product using authoring tools. The special requirements of the relevant operating systems are discussed and explored, and practical exercises investigate their use when designing creative media products for a variety of applications. Students are made aware of the difficulties that may be encountered when developing creative media items for multiple platforms and the importance of continuous testing is stressed. Introduction to the elements of screen design and their importance is discussed.
Project management introduces a key element in success, as a creative media producer is the ability to promote, publicise, and market the product. With aims to provide student with a range of ideas and attitudes, which will help to develop successful projects by applying diverse integration of animation, video, audio components in interactive content development.
Web Design and Online Publishing
Introduces current principles of Internet Application Development beyond visually appealing user-interfaces. Specific design concepts will be applied to an advanced web-design or web-conceptualization during a class project. The contents focus on the principles of HTML, JAVA, XML application programming web page design and construction. Internet and networking are taught to allow students to develop a deeper understanding of these rapidly developing fields.
In addition to these 'staple' technologies, additional related subjects are also covered including Flash action scripting, JavaScript, QTVR, audio and video streaming, dynamic web publishing, databases and server-side technologies
Audio Technology
Introduction to Studio Technology
Students are introduced to studies in sound theory, basic studio operations, console architecture, microphones and effects processors, as well as basic electronics, which will establish a strong foundational background concentric to the audio and media technology developments at this present time and in the near future.
Digital Media and Music Production
Introduce students to Digital Technology, MIDI, Sound Designing and Sampling and Basic Musicianship studies. This would enable students to develop a critical and analytical analysis of music and apply the knowledge in the areas of music performance and composition through electronic music production systems.
Advanced Audio Studies
Comprises areas of study which enables students to develop creative, pre-production, production and post-production skills in a wide range of development activities like advanced audio console operation with emphasis on production techniques assisted by digital technology, Time Code and Synchronization, session planning and other topics appropriate to employment in the music production, broadcast television, video production and film industries.
Audio Post Technology and Applied Media Studies
Covers a broader perspective to develop creative, critical, analytical, technical and organisational skills appropriate to eventual employment in the live sound reinforcement, broadcast and audio post-production for video and film. Areas covered by this module include live sound system reinforcement application, design and installation. Also covered is broadcasting concept and audio post production for video and film.
Digital Film Making Film and Video Production
One of key element in video production is directing and functioning as a producer. Students will gain the necessary creative and technical skills to produce and direct their own project in a professional context through practical demonstration and supervised in-class project work.
These parallels include how to plan and compile a production schedule, which identifies all required resources and timelines for the completion of all stages of a production. Main topics: film finance and budgeting, production timelines, legal clearances, copyright, government funding, resource identification, scheduling cast, location scouting and choosing your talent. Besides, it also introduces topics such as the technology involved and script writing.
Camera and Lighting Techniques
This module covers all aspects of working with digital video cameras. Main topics covers on: recording media, lenses and filters, location shots, basic photography and shot composition. These parallels include how to set up lighting for indoor and outdoor advertisement shooting, use of different light for different occasion.
Digital Special FX and Character Animation
Computer Graphics integration, or "visual effects" is a huge, broad, and complex field of the computer animation industry. The goal of the special effects module is to introduce some of the techniques used for creating these effects for film and television. The objective of the project is to seamlessly combine computer-generated elements into a "live" or real world background plate.
Special attention will be directed toward integration of the CG element(s) with regards to lighting, shadows and reflections.
Students will learn basic character animation principles and how to apply them to simple 3D models. An emphasis will be placed on developing good timing and animation techniques including stretch and squash, arcs, weight, anticipation / action / reaction, overlapping and secondary action. Students will complete short animation exercises demonstrating these principles.
Film and Video Editing
Provide students with a solid grounding in how the editing process works and how process of development of footage through to completion The students will learn to appreciate the large amount of creative input expected from specialist audio/ video personnel to achieve certain desired results and effects and application techniques based on their knowledge for practical assessment.
